At North Devon joinery Ltd we are pleased to introduce a new concept in Double Glazing. Slimlite Double Glazed Units. These super thin units are suitable for listed and conservation areas are unobtrusive and will fit into most single glazed windows.

An important consideration with low emissivity glass is the light transmission. Slimlite is constructed with the preferred Pilkington K low emissivity and clear float glass, which provides a light transmission of 75 compared with clear glass at 81, which when glazed is barely noticeable.
Slimlite has a 5mm perimeter seal and has been designed specifically to fit into Georgian style windows to maintain the preferred visually slim glazing bars.
As the cavities of the Slimlite are very narrow compared to standard double glazing units, they are virtually undetectable as double glazing, unless from close up examination.
A fairly recent publication provides figures which show that replacing one square metre of single glazing by Low E double glazing represents a saving of 91kg of carbon dioxide emissions per year.
Slimlite is constructed with low emissivity glass, normally the inner pane, which reflects the long wave or heat back into the room. The cavities are filled with inert gas, which is a mixture of Krypton and Xenon, which are very good insulators.
The most popular Slimlite is constructed 4mm Low E/4mm Cavity, gas/4mm clear, U Value 1.9, which in insulation terms is comparable to, or an improvement on, many standard wide units on the market today.
Nearly all double glazed units manufactured today are constructed with Low E glass to comply with the insulation regulations in Document L, England and Document J, Scotland, although there are exceptions for listed buildings.
